Past Tips

When job seeking, even at home have a folder with the names and details of all the places you applied, with printouts of the job descriptions. Keep this by the phone. If you get a sudden phone screen, you'll be ready!

...............................................................

Be careful of eating or drinking while on an interview. I know of one person who spilled coffee on a manager's desk, and didn't get the job! Having food or drink spill might cost you a job, so have something before or wait if you can.

...............................................................

Have a set of questions to ask the person interviewing you. The better the questions, the better your chances of getting hired.

...............................................................

Dress and act as you would for a first date. Pay attention to grooming, demeanor, appearance. You're trying to get to know strangers in hopes of a mutually beneficial long-term arrangement.

...............................................................

Know where you're going on your interview. Don't just rely on an Internet map, check out the route. There might be construction, special circumstances, multiple locations, etc. Confirm the directions on the company website, and do a practice run if at all possible to time it out.

...............................................................

Do your homework and research the company on the Web, in business magazines, through people. Find out as much as you can about them and their industry. When they ask what you know about them, you can impress them with your thorough understanding.

...............................................................

Treat everyone you meet at the company with respect and politeness. They're all potential co-workers.
